If you had told me in my late teens, early 20s, that I would be working in the fitness industry, I wouldn’t have believed you. Up to that point, I successfully dodged gym classes and sports teams. Going into college, I had every intention of becoming a therapist, but after graduating from UCF with my degree in psychology, I was burned out.
Fitness at this point in my life was barely a hobby, and more like a habit I dipped in and out of. I started, stopped, started again. Eventually, I began working with a personal trainer, which helped to keep me consistent, but the gym was still intimidating. My mindset was to just show up and then figure it out when I got there. I didn’t really know what I was doing or why. I had poorly defined goals centered around keeping active and supporting my mental health. While the Nike approach of “just do it” worked for a long time, it made working out meaningless and uninspiring.
Pilates was different. It looked simple but felt challenging. I struggled but wanted more. And the best part? My body felt good. I was hooked. Pilates taught me about different muscles, how to engage them, and their function. It was much easier than trying to math out in my head whether I should do a leg day, an arm day, or if that even mattered (again, poorly defined goals).
I began to recognize Pilates fit better into the life I was trying to create for myself from the one I first started building. By the end of 2023, I got comprehensively certified and dedicated my life to teaching movement in a way that feels clear, intentional, and accessible. Now I help clients build strength, confidence, and better body awareness so they can feel good in their bodies.
